Rescued and rehomed dogs - of all ages, shapes and sizes, and from every corner of England and Wales - are preparing to compete for the public's vote in the annual RSPCA Rescue Dog of the Year competition and win a place in the grand final.
The RSPCA Rescue Dog of the Year competition is the largest national show exclusively for pedigree and cross-breed rescue dogs from all backgrounds - not just RSPCA centres - each with a heart-warming story to tell of how they triumphed over adversity.
How to vote for your favourite rescue dog
Characterful canines from over 50 qualifying heats across England and Wales have all successfully qualified as heat winners.
From midday on Monday, 8 September until midday on Tuesday, 30 September, everyone is invited to vote online for their favourite regional heat winner at:
www.rspca.org.uk/doty
You will be able to view photos of all the heat winners and read their fascinating stories about how they came to be rescued and rehomed with their current owners. It's then up to you to decide which dogs you think most deserve to go through to the grand final. You can vote for one dog in each of the six regions.
The six dogs with the most votes will then battle it out in a grand final, which will run exclusively in the Sunday Express newspaper during November for readers to vote for the dog they want to be crowned RSPCA Rescue Dog of the Year 2008.
A whole host of prizes for the winner
The overall winner will be announced by the Sunday Express in November and will receive a whole host of prizes including:
- an engraved cut-glass trophy
- RSPCA pet insurance cover for a year*
- a photo session with glossy magazine Dogs Today and the chance to feature on the front cover
- their pet portrait by animal artist Michelle Murray. *subject to terms and conditions.
Online voting will commence at midday on Monday, 8 September and will close at midday on Tuesday, 30 September 2008 at www.rspca.org.uk/doty.
